wildfacts
I learnt a lot from the BBC, particularly when I came up against the BBC Operations department, whose job it is to make sure that all BBC Online content is consistent across categories, maintains brand values and adheres to the BBC's public licence (maximum accessibility, short download times, the importance of cross-browser compatibility and so on).

During this time I designed and built the UK Wild site, working with the Ordnance Survey to develop a mapping system for the year 2000 site, where children could use interactive maps to plot where they had seen particular animals.

Working with a database developer I also built Wildfacts, an information resource on a large number of animals. This section is used extensively throughout the Nature category, because it is context-independent. At the time, Wildfacts accounted for approximately 25% of the hits in the Nature category (it has subsequently been redesigned and extended).
